The Books On My CoffeeTable

Lately, I have been drawn to books that feature the Old South.. I love the old movie Gone with the Wind. I read the book my fifth grade year, and my mother was so shocked that she let me stay up to watch the classic that fall when it aired on television. That was one of the best weeks of my life! Mind you I was only twelve years old!

Over the years I have never lost my attraction for the old historic south, if anything, it has become one of my favorite things to do! I love to travel and stop to see historic homes that were not burned by Sherman's army.

I was really excited to find this book at a garage sale! I paid fifty cents for it, and would have paid more! I have this sitting out  with my collection of old historic homes of the south...Gone with the Wind!

My favorite book on my side table right now is A House in the South.  I highly recommend it if you want to see a gothic mansion, a  rustic seaside cottage, or a civil war home in Charleston!

It also has many decorating ideas, including:
  • Using wrought iron for decorative elements.
  • Incorporating the porch as an essential room of the house.
  • Collecting antique silver.

Last but not least, one of my favorite places to visit is the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.  No trip is complete without A Guide to the Biltmore Estate! I have owned this book for over ten years, and I have visited several times. This estate never gets old; its timeless! I hope you have enjoyed a peek at the books on my coffee table!

Until next time,

  19. Hello fellow southerner! I'm a Tennessee gal. What area of the south are you from? I've actually never read Gone With The Wind and I am a literature minor! I need to add it to my list.

  20. I recently bought a book entitled Historic Franklin and the bookstore owner told me that many people are using such for guest books. People pick a page and sign. I like that idea. The Old South certainly provides lots of fodder for beautiful books.

  21. Oh sweetie, we are kindred spirits. Gone With the Wind is my favorite movie. I could watch it over and over again. Every now and then I pull it out and give it look. Never tire of it. A few years ago hubby and I vacationed in the Carolinas and Virginia. Loved every minute of it. I bought a painting in a local art shop of my favorite home in Charleston. It hangs in our bedroom. Glad you visited me. Now I am following you.
    hugs,
    Jann
