New Bed with Old Stories!

I recently changed a few things in my daughters bedroom which led to a project with chalk paint! I am a huge fan of this stuff! I love that you do NOT have to prime, sand, or do any prep to your furniture piece! That is my kind of project!
My mom gave my daughter a double mattress for Christmas this year, so we surprised her with a new bedspread. The problem was the new mattresses had no headboard or footboard. I made a mental note to begin looking for one when I was at some of my favorite thrift stores.

Before I knew it, my grandfather heard I was in the market for a headboard and foot board, and called to inform me he had one in his attic for her! Just what I love! A piece of furniture with some history! This furniture has history I know all about, because I slept on a bed with these pieces during summer time visits to his home! I was excited to be able to pass some stories down to my daughter that went with her new bed!

I cleaned the pieces with a simple water and soap solution. I let this air dry for a few hours, and then I mixed my websters chalk powder to a satin white paint.

You can use any kind of paint and color you want. When you mix the chalk powder in the paint it becomes chalk paint!

I have to tell you this is a fraction of the cost of most chalk paint that's already mixed on the market! I have paid extra to buy the chalk paint already mixed, but it will be difficult to do that again after using websters chalk powder!  I love that I can pick out my color, have it mixed, and then mix in the powder to be chalk paint!  You can read here on where I bought my Chalk powder.

I used miss mustard seed's furniture wax to seal it.

Here is the headboard and footboard out of my grandparents attic!

Here is the newly painted headboard and footboard! I think this makes a perfect bed for a sweet girl!

Until next time,

  9. Hi Nicole,
It's very nice to meet you! Your bed turned out really cute and I'm sure your daughter loves it.
I wish I had known about chalk paint when I painted my furniture. It took six coats to do my coffee table. A lot of work but it sure looks good!
Thank you for stopping by. I'm following you back. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

    Blessings,
    Sandi
